Developed for Expo 2025 Osaka, the project presented Thailand's healthcare and wellness potential through a contemporary visual identity inspired by traditional wisdom and modern medical innovation.
The Challenge
As part of Expo 2025 Osaka, the project represented not only an organization but also the image of Thailand on the global stage. The challenge was to create a visual identity that met international standards while maintaining a strong sense of Thai identity. The system needed to feel contemporary, refined, and accessible to audiences from different cultures, while effectively communicating stories of healthcare, wellness, and innovation.
Another key challenge was to move beyond conventional representations of Thai design and establish a more modern visual language that could resonate with international audiences.
Design Process
The logo was inspired by the "Chalew," a traditional symbol historically placed on herbal medicine pots to protect and preserve their contents. Reinterpreted in a contemporary form, the symbol became a representation of care, healing, and Thai wisdom in healthcare.
The visual system was further developed through two primary graphic languages. Traditional Thai decorative motifs were reimagined with a contemporary approach, while additional graphic elements were derived from the distinctive roof forms of the pavilion architecture. Together, these elements formed a cohesive identity that bridged Thai cultural heritage with modern design expression.
The Solution
The final identity system presented a contemporary image of Thailand that successfully balanced tradition and innovation. By combining Thai cultural references with a modern visual language, the project communicated the country's healthcare and wellness potential in a way that felt both authentic and internationally relevant.
Inspired by traditional Thai paintings, the illustration system was reinterpreted in a contemporary style, contributing to a visual experience that elevated the perception of Thai design and reinforced Thailand's position as a global destination for health and wellness.
